 Wel_hops, a success in Sweden

The result of Wel_hops has been a success in Sweden. To date 1,000 copies of the printed books and a great number of CD have been distributed to companies/organizations and to around 150 municipalities all over Sweden.

Wel_hops project’s results have been presented and actively discussed in around 15 seminars in Sweden, many of them together with the Swedish organization “Aktiv senior”. The presentations have also many times been together with the government project “Äldreboendedelegationen”, who, through a link, promotes Wel_hops guidelines on its own website, www.sou.gov.se/aldreboende/aktuellt.htm

Wel_hops publication has become a study material for the architect education at the University, Blekinge Institute of Technology.

Following much demand, more Guidelines will be printed to be distributed and presented in seminars already scheduled starting from this autumn and in the beginning of next year.

The result were presented at an IAHSA seminar in Vienna in the spring and this resulted in interest spreading to many countries, i.e. US, Slovenia, Malta, Australia, Cyprus, Germany, Romania, Norway, Belgium, Finland, Denmark and Austria. On the 21st November there will be a new presentation at EAHSA seminar in Brussels. The Sweden staff will be also take part in the planning of a senior housing development in Sophia Antipolice, France.

A company in Sweden will build prefabricated houses for seniors following the recommendation of Wel_hops guidelines.

So far, in Sweden, Wel_hops seems to be a very successful project, where results after project’s closure continue to be appreciated and used.

The hope is that there could be a follow up project, because it concerns an area of intervention that affects not only Europe but everywhere around the world.  Across the world all countries face the same challenges with the demographic and social changes connected to the population’s ageing and a growing number of elderly citizens.
